Our Vision

Desert Son Community Church exists to mobilize a team of fully devoted followers who intimately love Jesus and share him with others.

About Us

Desert Son Community Church was founded and established by Pastor Tim Laycock, his wife Lyndol, and a group of dedicated families in 1996.

The church has grown from a few families in 1996, to more than 400 people who currently call Desert Son Community Church their home church. The congregation is multi- generational with a growing population of young families with children. Desert Son Community Church has a Saturday evening and multiple Sunday morning services with a strong emphasis on youth and children's programs, as well as a weekday onsite preschool program.

The church supports many missionaries who are impacting the world for Him both locally and around the globe.

We consider ourselves a casual church with a family feel. It is the kind of place where you can 'come as you are" and truly fit in.

Desert Son Community Church is located at 5250 W. Cortaro Road, approximately one- half of a mile East of I-10 on Cortaro Road.

What We Believe

1. We believe that 'all scripture is inspired by God," that in its entirety. The Bible is the inerrant and divinely authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Peter 1:20-21)

2. We believe that the one loving and true God eternally exists in three distinct persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and that these three possess the same nature, attributes and glory. (John 1:1; Matthew 28:19)

3.We believe that man was created directly by God, but that by disobedience he fell into sin. Therefore, he is liable to eternal punishment and cannot save himself. (Gen.3; Romans 3:23; Eph. 2:8-9)

4. We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son, and that through His virgin birth, true humanity and undiminished deity were united in one person forever. (Philippians 2:5-11)

5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died upon the cross as a full and perfect substitutionary sacrifice for sins, and that His bodily resurrection and ascension to Heaven marks Him as Lord of all. (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:14-17)

6. We believe that salvation is entirely of God's grace, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. The believer is forgiven, regenerated, given eternal life and kept by the power of God to salvation on the sole basis of faith in Christ as personal Savior. (Titus 3:5-7; Eph.2:8-9)

7. We believe that God the Holy Spirit has united every believer to Christ by Spirit baptism and that He indwells every believer to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to empower and instruct the believer in Godly living and service. (Romans 12:7-13; Eph. 1:13-14)

8. We believe that the Church is comprised of all true believers and that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Head of His Church. (Eph. 5:23)

9. We believe that the local church is under the direct authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, through His Word, and that in obedience to Him, it is to practice believer's baptism and the Lord's supper as ordinances. Elders are raised up by the Chief Shepherd to shepherd God's people. (1 Corinthians 11:23-34; Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Timothy 5:17)

10. We believe in the personal, imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ for his Church. His return to glory to reign upon the earth and the eternal blessing of Heaven for those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for Salvation. (1Thess. 4:16-17; Rev. 21)

11. We believe that believers live in the world under the mandate of the Great Commission, which calls us to bear witness to the Lord Jesus Christ in the entire world. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Our Values

1. Word of God
We believe that the Word of God is powerful and life changing. We also believe that it is a practical blueprint for living out a Christ-centered life while here on earth. Therefore, everything that we do will be filtered through God's Word. Our teaching, preaching, life groups, children's ministry, worship, etc. will all be based on the centrality of God's Word. This will include a regular practice of the Lord's Supper and Baptism.

2. Grace Based
We are committed to responding sensitively to seekers that enter our building or those who live in our community. We are careful not to use "church" words that will leave a non-Christian feeling isolate and unwanted. In fact, if we are going to offend we would rather offend the Christian rather than the non-Christian. This is not to say that we will water down the Truth. We believe that the Bible is real, and if spoken in love, will generate life change. Therefore, in being sensitive to the non-Christian, we are careful to remain centered on the Bible and committed to Biblical mandates.

3. Evangelism and Missions
We believe that all people matter to God. It is our belief that the Holy Spirit is the only one who can change lives. Realizing this, the process of bringing people to Christ involves time, personal contact, love in action and significant events planned throughout the year to optimize the sharing of the Gospel by the believers within the body. We also believe that the best way to reach lost people and unsaved communities is through church planting. In light of this, our top priority will be to support workers who are either church planters at home or abroad. We are also very committed to missionaries who are from our church body, either long or short term.

4. Dynamic Worship
We believe that man was created to worship Go. Our celebration of God must be celebrative, and reflective, planned and structured while flexible and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Celebrative worship is a state of being which is extremely personal. We are committed to a contemporary style of worship that utilizes all instruments necessary to bring praise and glory to God. We believe people should participate in worship and not simply observe or be "entertained."

5. Cultural Relevancy/Need Oriented
Society is in continual flux. Thus, our programs must change with the times. Our methodology must remain relevant to the needs and experiences that people are facing in their everyday lives. Excellence must be sought at all times. We are committed to meeting people's felt needs in order to bring them to their real need-the Savior, Jesus Christ.

6. Small Groups
We believe that within life groups change best occurs. We believe that life groups are the backbone of our church. We desire to decentralize our church in life group gatherings. We strongly believe that everyone should be cared for and that no one should care for more than fifteen people.

7. Lay Leadership/Equipping
We believe that the senior pastor/paid staff and lay leader's roles are to equip others to do the work of the ministry. We believe that training others through temperament, skills, and spiritual gifts are essential for setting people free to do ministry. We believe strongly in the priesthood of the believer. The pastor's role is not to do the entire ministry, but to equip or coach others to do ministry.

8. Men's/Women's Ministries
We believe strongly that as a church we are being especially called to reach men and women for Christ. Life groups are a top priority for helping men and women grow closer to Jesus. Specific ministries will be adapted around our constituencies' passion, talents, gifts, and vision.

9. Children/Family
We believe children are special in God's kingdom. We also believe that reaching children is one of the best means for reaching adults. Therefore, we are committed to conducting a fabulous children's ministry. We are also highly devoted to helping the entire family structure. With this belief, much of our funds and energy will be poured into the children's ministry.

10. Youth Ministry
Youth are not simply the church of the future, instead, they are very much a part of the church today. We are committed to youth ministry and developing a multi-faceted ministry that reaching youth where they are.
